Under the close supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory), the Environmental Scientist (ES) will support the integration of environmental justice and equity into the Department’s work through internal capacity building and meaningful, culturally relevant involvement of impacted communities and Native American Tribes. The ES will apply scientific methods and principles to identify and analyze disproportionate impacts of departmental decisions and make recommendations for advancing environmental justice and equity.

Working Conditions

The incumbent will work in a secured high-rise, administrative office building, under artificial lighting; use a computer for up to 8 hours a day; and, travel as required to locations throughout California to attend environmental justice, equity, or tribal meetings and department sponsored outreach and community engagement events- travel may include overnight stays.

NOTE: This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location, as indicated on their duty statement, at their own expense.
