Job Description

The Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) is seeking a dedicated Lab Technician to join our mission-driven team committed to reducing the impact of severe weather on homes, businesses, and communities. IBHS is a nonprofit organization made up of a talented group of scientists, engineers, technicians, and communications professionals who collaborate to understand the performance of buildings during extreme weather events. As a Lab Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting our research efforts, helping to ensure that our findings lead to real-world improvements. Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and execution of laboratory experiments related to building and materials research.
  • Conduct tests to evaluate the performance of building components under simulated extreme weather conditions.
  • Collect, record, and analyze data from experiments and tests, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure a clean and organized work environment.
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers to develop new testing protocols and methodologies.
  • Document experimental procedures and results for inclusion in research reports and publications.
  • Support other team members in various research activities as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as engineering, materials science, or a related discipline; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Proven experience working in a laboratory environment, preferably in a research setting.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow complex procedures accurately.
  • Basic knowledge of building materials and their properties is a plus.
  • Proficient in data collection and analysis techniques, including statistical methods.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for clear reporting and collaboration.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team as well as independently when required.
