Senior Project Manager and Estimator – Road Construction
Alexandria, MN | Direct Hire | $110-$150k

Konik is partnered with a respected civil contractor seeking a Senior Project Manager/Estimator to lead road construction projects from initial bid through final closeout. This role combines estimating, project leadership, financial management, and client communication across multi-state heavy civil projects. Ideal candidates bring strong civil construction experience, proven cost-control skills, and the ability to drive safe, high-quality project delivery.

Senior Project Manager and Estimator Highlights

  • Lead full project lifecycle from bid preparation through construction and closeout.
  • Prepare detailed estimates for grading, paving, utilities, and roadway improvements.
  • Oversee project schedules, budgets, subcontractors, and field operations.
  • Act as primary liaison for owners, engineers, inspectors, and internal teams.
  • Ensure compliance with all DOT, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Opportunities to mentor junior staff and support continuous improvement.

Senior Project Manager and Estimator  Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate, competitive estimates and bid proposals for road and civil infrastructure projects.
  • Review and interpret plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and DOT standards.
  • Lead multiple projects simultaneously, managing scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
  • Develop work plans, project schedules, and cost projections in coordination with field leaders.
  • Negotiate subcontractor agreements and oversee subcontractor performance.
  • Track job costs, process change orders, and ensure projects meet profitability goals.
  • Conduct regular site visits and ensure all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Maintain strong communication with owners, engineers, inspectors, and project stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to process improvements and team development.

Senior Project Manager and Estimator  Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in heavy civil or road construction.
  • Strong record of successful project execution and cost management.
  • Proficiency with estimating software (HCSS, Bid2Win, or similar) and Microsoft Office.
  • In-depth knowledge of DOT standards, specifications, and regional regulations.
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to multi-state project sites.
